Editorial standards

How we research, source, update and correct the health guides on this site. Last updated: 3 November 2026.

Gutrack publishes free guides about gastritis, GERD, acid reflux and sensitive digestion. They exist to help you understand your own symptoms and have a better conversation with a clinician — never to replace one. This page describes the standard we hold ourselves to, so you can judge the content for yourself.

Who writes the guides

Guides are written and edited by the Gutrack editorial team at Soren Ltd, the company that builds the Gutrack app. We are a software company, not a clinic. Our articles synthesise publicly available medical information; they do not contain individual medical advice.

How we research

We start from primary and institutional sources rather than other marketing pages. For the conditions we write about, that usually means:

  • National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the US National Institutes of Health.
  • Peer-reviewed gastroenterology literature and published clinical guidance, where a specific mechanism is described.
  • Product documentation for any feature of the Gutrack app we describe.

Articles that make factual claims about a condition link to the background sources used. Where a number appears — a score, a pH range, a time window — it comes either from that published source or from Gutrack's own documented scoring model, and we try to say which.

Established evidence vs. individual tolerance

These are different things, and we try not to blur them. General statements about gastric acid, gastric emptying or the lower esophageal sphincter are supported by physiology and clinical literature. Statements about which specific food upsets your stomach are inherently individual. That is why the Gastric Safety Index is presented as an estimate to test against your own log, not a prediction about you.

Where the evidence for a popular dietary rule is weak or mixed, we say so rather than repeating it as fact.

What we will not publish

  • Claims that the app diagnoses, treats or cures a condition.
  • Invented ratings, testimonials, user counts, awards or medical endorsements.
  • Named medical reviewers unless a licensed clinician has actually reviewed the page.
  • Sponsored recommendations or paid placement inside editorial content.
  • Fear-based promises about symptom outcomes or timelines.

Medical review

Our guides are not currently reviewed by a named, licensed clinician, and we do not imply otherwise. We would rather state that plainly than display a review badge that is not true. If a clinician joins our review process, their name, credentials and the pages they reviewed will appear on those pages.

Updates

Every guide carries a visible “Updated” date and a machine-readable dateModified value. We revise a page when guidance changes, when we find an error, or when a reader sends us better information. Adding sources, related guides or corrections is treated as an update, and the date moves with it.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us. Email admin@sorentech.dev with the page URL and what you believe is incorrect. We will check it against a source and correct or clarify the page. Significant corrections are noted on the page itself.

Independence and funding

This site is funded by the Gutrack app. The guides are free, carry no advertising, and are not influenced by advertisers or affiliates because we have none. Links to the App Store are ours. External links are to sources, not commercial partners.

Medical disclaimer

Gutrack is a self-tracking tool, not a medical device. Nothing on this site is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional about your symptoms. Seek emergency care for severe or persistent abdominal pain, vomiting blood, black tarry stools, unexplained weight loss, or difficulty swallowing.
